With the Holidays here, many guys think about getting their wives or girlfriends a fur, or faux fur leather jacket or coat. But just what is faux fur? What is faux fur made out of? Is faux fur cheap or quality? Well, years ago leather fur coats were popular and was seen as something up there with getting a diamond necklace.
A mink fur coat was a status symbol. Then organizations against the cruelty to animals made everyone more aware of the suffering and inhuman treatment that fur animals go through. So now many look down on real fur coats and jackets, and instead opt for faux fur leather jackets and coats. But many still don’t know just what a fuax fur is.
Faux is pronounced “foe” and is French for “not real”. Years ago people who wanted a fur coat but could not afford one got a fake fur leather coat instead. So they were looked on as cheap, and most were. But today a faux fur leather coat is the norm and is very fashionable and most are quality made. Many leather coats have an inside liner of faux fur. For many motorcycle enthusiast, winter means that biking season is over. You put your Harley in storage, pack your leather motorcycle jacket and gear away and wait until spring. I know many friends who do that, as I use to live in Vermont. Hell, I bet there was only a month’s time in the whole year I could ride my hog without being cold.
It seems to me like such a waste. You pay so much for a motorcycle, put all that care, attention and money into it, just to only ride it a few months out of the year. But for those who live in the south, especially in Florida, the winter months are actually the best time of all to go cruising! Summer in Orlando for a biker is hot, damn hot! Read more…
When winter comes most people put away their leather motorcycle jackets. Unless your down south like Florida where I am. In that case it’s perfect for biking at this time of year! But even if your up north there still are plenty of fashion leather jackets and shearling leather jackets made for the winter to wear as all around jackets and coats.
Most have no idea what, if any, extra care should be done with leather jackets in the winter time. There are a few things you should do to help your leather jacket make it through the winter months as best as possible, as well as things not to do. The number one enemy of leather jackets in the cold winter months is drying out from the cold dry air. Read more…
So how do you repair a cut in a leather jacket or other leather? How do you repair a burn mark in leather? How do you fix a rip in a leather jacket? Repair a cut in a leather couch or chair? Well I’ll tell you the most common way to repair a cut, rip or burn in anything leather. When you’ve had a leather jacket for a long time you really get attached to it.
Unlike other clothing you just throw away when it gets a tear in it, you really want to try to repair a leather jacket. Same goes for a leather couch, or motorcycle seat, maybe a leather vest, leather pants and so on. Now I’m sure you’ve seen those leather repair kits “as seen on TV” and so on. For the most part all the leather repair kits are like that, as far as the steps. Read more…
Boy I sure have not been keeping up with my post on here have I! I’m sorry, I’ve been having a lot to do with moving back down here to Florida. I have not done much work on my leather store, I guess that will have to wait for a while. Anyway I wanted to post something here, so I found this neat youtube leather video.
Have you ever wondered just how they make, or cut a leather strand, or length of leather? I mean for making leather braids, or shoestrings, or anything else you would use a narrow length of leather for. With a special leather tool you can take a foot long square of leather and in seconds make several yards of leather strand, or leather cord. Just watch this youtube leather video and see how it’s done. Enjoy!
Well I just got back to Florida after spending 2 months in Vermont. I had a good time up there. The fall foliage was great, the colors were very nice and bright. My mom was very happy to have me up there that long. Working on your laptop sure has it’s rewards, you can go anywhere and still be at work! I’ll try to post some more pictures I took up there.
But the last few days were damn cold, we even had snow! I hate the cold, which is why I moved to Florida. So I flew back on the first of the month and have been busy getting everything back in order with my life. It’s perfect right now down here, not too hot and not too cold. Fall is actually the best time for anyone to take a vacation down here.
I look forward to getting my Harley out and going for a nice long cruise. No, that’s not mine in the picture, I’ll post one of mine soon, it looks the same as that one, a nice touring bike. Winter is great down here for wearing your leather motorcycle jacket and going for a ride. Summer is just a bit too hot for leather jackets down here.
So anyways I’ll try to post more now that I’m back. Yes, I have to fill up my store area with a lot more stuff, I guess I’m going to miss the Holiday rush, I just can’t get it all together in time. But next year I’ll have my leather store much bigger. So look for more post in here, and more items added to the store. It’s good to be back!
Buying a colored leather jacket, what do you look for as far as quality goes? How do they make colored leather jackets? Are colored leather jackets dyed, or are they painted? Well let me answer some of those questions! Now then, even your standard black leather jackets are colored in a way. That blue-black color most leather jackets have is not the natural hide color.
Lots of women like pink leather jackets, maybe a white leather jacket. If your getting a leather fashion jacket red, cream, blue and other colors are popular leather jacket colors. You can even get leather jackets that have several colors to it in the form of stripes or sections of the jacket. Read more…
Hi everyone, sorry I’ve been late posting. I’m working on getting more leather items in the store, just takes so much time! Anyway for today I thought I’d talk about getting an airbrushed design on your leather jacket. Actually you can get a design on anything leather. Leather saddlebags look great with designs on them. So do leather vest, leather purses, even leather chaps.
But the back of leather jackets is what most people pick to have a design made. I use to run a leather store where I airbrushed designs on leather jackets. I also airbrushed monograms on luggage, purses and briefcases. Now, I am not very artistic, so all the designs I made were done by stencils. They can make even a non artistic fool like me look great!
See the design in the picture above? That was my most popular design, the double dragon. All of it was done by stencil, then covered with a clear coat. Leather jacket designs can really personalize your jacket and make it stand out. You can make a statement with it, show your pride, or just show off a beautiful picture. Read more…
Hi everyone, hope the weekend is going well. Today you can find a lot of different leather motorcycle accessories for your bike. None of it is stuff you really need, but it adds a nice touch to your bike if you like a lot of leather trim on it. Now of course you have your leather seat, leather saddlebags and those other leather tool bags and stuff.
But there’s a lot of little things you can add to your bike made of leather too. One of the most common are the leather cup holders. They can come in lots of different designs, with leather fringe, studs and so on. Most have a hole in the bottom to attach to a part of your bike, or straps to go around any bar or something to attach to.
Then you have the motorcycle handlebar leather covers. Often they are made with long fringes hanging down, however many just are sleeves that cover the handlebar. They are mostly for looks, but they also feel nice in your hands.
They also make brake and clutch leather covers, with or without fringes. They can be colored or black. You can even find leather mud flap covers. They also have lots of different motorcycle leather tank covers. So if you look around you can outfit your motorcycle with a whole lot of leather accessories. I’ll be carrying those in my store, as soon as I get the time to add them!
Hi everyone, sorry I have not been posting much. I’ve got a lot of writing I’ve been finishing up. Once I have it done in a day or two I’ll be doing more work in here. That includes getting more items in my store too! Well today I thought I’d make a quick post about leather shirts. Yes, they make leather shirts, in lots of different styles too.
Now normally I talk about how you want a tough cowhide or buffalo leather hide, or pigskin hide leather jacket. But for a shirt, you want something soft and flexible. Often you want it made from the split grain, unless it’s lambskin, sheepskin or maybe goat. The split grain is more softer and flexible than the top grain, which is better for a jacket.
So for a leather shirt the best type of leather is lambskin, sheepskin and goat. But the split grain of cowhide, buffalo and pigskin can also be used, however the lambskin will be the softest. Most leather shirts button up in front, but some have snap buttons, and some you put on like a sweater with just a short top zipper. Often they have breast pockets that button or snap shut. Read more…
