Labor Day weekend motorcycle events

labor day weekend motorcycle events

Well everyone, the summer is winding down. This weekend is Labor Day weekend, the unofficial end of summer. Down here in Florida the good weather is just beginning! But for those up north the cold weather will soon be here. Although biking in the fall is nice up there, looking at all the fall leaves and colors. I’m going up to my home state of Vermont in October for a few weeks myself.

There’s lots of motorcycle rides and events going on throughout the country on Labor Day weekend. So many I’m not going to try to list any here. However there is a website that has a motorcycle calendar of events. It list what seems to be every biker ride and event going on all year! There’s lots in there for Labor Day weekend too.

The website is called Motorcycle Events, and it has lots of great links to anything and everything about motorcycles. So if you want to check and see what might be going on in your neck of the woods for Labor Day weekend, check out the link above. Have a great Labor Day weekend everyone, and PLEASE ride safe! 😉

What’s the best material for leather jacket zippers?

It’s been a long time since I made a “how to” post on here. So today I’ll talk a bit about leather jacket zippers. What’s the best type of leather jacket zipper? What should a leather jacket zipper be made out of? Well let’s first see what kinds you can get out there. Most leather jacket zippers are made of brass, stainless steel, nickel, aluminum or plastic.

I think it’s safe to say the plastic ones are the cheapest and should be avoided. Many leather jacket zippers are actually made of several different types of material. The brass zippers are very common and look nice with a leather jacket. They don’t have that shine to them, which many prefer. Brass leather jacket zippers are very rugged and can really take lots of punishment.

However I have noticed that for some reason mildew starts the fastest around a brass zipper or hardware. I’m not sure why, but that’s been my experience. However if your taking good care of it that should not happen. Stainless steel and nickel leather jacket zippers are also top quality and last forever. They have a shine to them that some like, especially if you have shiny studs or hardware on your jacket.

Is a leather jacket always the right choice?

leather motorcycle jackets

It’s been a very hot summer here in Florida. That of course means riding the hog has been a sweat-fest most of the time! At least if your the type that believes in always wearing your protective leather jacket. Truth be told a leather jacket is about the hottest type of jacket you can wear in the summer months. The black color absorbs the sun, the leather stops the air from cooling you off.

Even with the air vents that good leather jackets have it’s still not enough when it’s in the 90’s. So is a leather motorcycle jacket always the right choice for riding your bike? Well, the short answer is no, it’s not. Since I sell leather jackets it might be surprising to hear me say that. But this site is about giving you honest answers, not just making a buck.

Now many just love leather and will not wear any other type of motorcycle jacket. The die hard leather bikers can’t bear to wear anything else, even if it means doing a slow burn in the hot sun. I’m like that, but when it gets super hot here in Orlando I switch to a more lighter synthetic jacket that is a light color and more breathable for the hottest two months.

Most of the time in most areas your trying to keep warm, not stay cool. So a leather jacket is the best 90% of the time. But the truth is there are cooler motorcycle jackets that reflect the sun’s heat and lets more air blow through to keep you cool. It’s tempting to just ride around in your T shirt on a hot summer day in Florida.

But if you think it’s hot, just think what your body will look like after sliding down that hot pavement after you take a tumble! So you should always wear a jacket, even when it’s hot out. The new fabric motorcycle jackets are really light and keep you cool, at least as cool as a jacket can. But I sure do miss that smell and feel of my trusty leather jacket!

Hi everyone, hope your all having a great summer. Summer is a slow time for leather jacket sales. Not many think about getting a warm leather jacket in the middle of the hot summer months. But, you can get some good deals out there right now, including here!

Since it’s so slow I’ve decided to have a summer leather jacket sale here. Rather than edit every jacket which takes time, I’m just going to let you all know here. It’s simple; if you order a leather jacket from now until the end of this month, July 31 2009, I’ll take $30.00 of the price.

That’s every and any leather jacket, men’s or woman’s. You already get free shipping in the USA! So whatever you see as the price on a jacket take 30 bucks off that and that will be your total cost, very simple. Now when you order it, the full price will be charged because of the shopping cart.

But once I process the order I will refund 30 dollars back to your account. So any leather jacket sales from now until July 31 2009 will get a $30.00 refund. If you have any questions please use the contact form in the “about/contact us” link in the top left sidebar. So get a deal on that leather jacket you want and be ready for the cooler months!

Alligator hide farmers can’t sell their hides

Alligator hide leather farmers can\'t sell hides

I bet you thought I would never write another post here! No, I’m still around, just busy. Hope your summer is going well. I thought I’d share a news story with you I heard. Seems like with all the bad economy going on, people who farm alligators for their hides can’t sell them. I don’t mean they can’t sell them for much, I mean they can’t get ANYONE to take them!

The places that process them and make them into all those fancy alligator leather boots, wallets and purses just don’t have enough demand for them anymore. Even the big shots that buy the high end alligator leather items are cutting back. So it’s not surprising that the alligator purses and boots are the first to go!

There’s a lot of alligator farms around here in Florida. The guy in the picture above is one of them. He’s ready to kill his whole farm of alligators because it cost so much to feed and keep them. It’s just not worth it anymore. I imagine it will take a while before people start buying the high end products, and alligator leather is one of the top price items.

Once this guy gets rid of his gators he will freeze the hides and wait until the price picks back up. I guess only a few will come out of this good. So see, even the CEO’s are cutting back, poor things! They will have to downgrade to cowhide like the rest of us. 😉

Motorcycle sales down in recession?

motorcycle sales

I was reading the news the other day and found some stats that was surprising to me. Now that times are hard and people are trying to save money, I thought motorcycle sales would be great. After all, motorcycles are very good on gas, you can buy used ones for only a few thousand and in Florida you don’t even need any insurance! (although that’s not a good idea).

But it turns out that motorcycle dealers are really getting hit hard and are even going out of biz. Why? Well for the most part it’s because of the clamp down on credit. Getting a house, then getting a car are considered basic “needs” and you can get credit easier for those. But a motorcycle is looked at as a toy you don’t need.

So the credit companies are making it really hard to finance one. Even people with great credit are finding out they can’t get a loan for a motorcycle. Getting a Harley is easier because they have their own financing and they are not being as hard as the others. So, if your thinking of getting a motorcycle right now, save up your money!

Try to have as much down as you can so it’s easier to get credit. Go with a Harley if you like them, as it’s easier to get financing with them. If you have bad credit, forget about it. You can always get a used one for a few thousand if your not picky. Good luck!
